Rising to the challenge

Being a leader sometimes means facing your own fears.1. Describe a time in camp, this far, that you were challenged either mentally or physically. 2. What messages did you tell yourself to get through it or what messages were shared by others that helped you through it. 3. How did you feel after?

  1. 1; In camp, I was challenged when I was climbing the mountain at the water park on the second Tuesday. 2; When I was doing this, Kristina, my partner, was in the water below me coaching me along. Because of her, I made it to the top, not once, but twice. 3; When Kristina was helping me, I felt like I could do anything with her help.

  2. Okay, this is going to sound weird, but I was challenged when I learned that I couldn't do weight-bearing activities, which includes climbing. It wasn't at camp, but it was during camp time. I was about to cry because this camp is special to me and it is my last year to do it. I told myself that just being part of this camp is special because not everyone gets in, and my mom told me that I was going to be okay and that just being there was better then not being there at all. After that, I felt a lot better about my injury because if I heal now, it won't be injured even more because I ignored the doctor's orders.

  3. At Clay's Water park, I went on the water zip line. I was scared my hands were going to slip and I would hit my head on the platform I run off of or fall into the water from really high. To help me face my fear, I told myself that I saw people clumsier than me, (not from this camp) not slip, so I wouldn't slip. I told myself that if I just hang on as tight as I could, I would be fine. Also, I asked other people if the bar you hang on to was slippery to them. They said a little, but it was not likely that you (me) would fall. After and during I went on the zip line, I was really glad I did it and it was really fun.

  4. yesterday when we went to Clay's water park i was scared to swing off the rings because they would move up or down and shake me when i grabbed on.Alex who was behind me kept telling me that even if i did fall, nothing would happen and that i could do it. after she told me i felt like i could do it, i went ahead and did the rings i made it to the second one and jumped off wanting to do it again.
